    responder: Depends on how big you are planning to go. These are great for printmaking and detailed carving. I'd suggest using these with a flexcut slip strop. Other Japanese tools break more easily and are more expensive.

    responder: No, the handles are too short and the steel too thin, even for a mini lathe. These are meant for wood carving.
